Our Services

At The Arc Ontario, we start by looking at the person, rather than the disability.  We listen to their unique needs, interests, life goals and dreams to discern the right supports for their individual growth.  We find that when we create the right opportunities, people with disabilities and other challenges find purpose and success.

With You Every Step of the Way

From the initial intake process our professional, caring staff is here to guide you. It all starts with JoEllen Schaefer, The Arc Ontario’s Intake Coordinator. She understands how the diagnosis of a disability is the first step in a lifelong journey. It can be full of overwhelming options and tough decisions, but she will help to reveal how it can also be a meaningful and rewarding adventure.

First Steps with The Arc Ontario

Navigating through the world of services can be overwhelming for families. You might not know where to begin or what to do. Starting is easy with our Intake Coordinator who can guide you through the process and explore the opportunities available to you and your family.

Front Door Information Sessions

What is Front Door?
Opening the door to a richer, fuller life—that’s the goal of the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) Front Door, a person-centered approach to planning supports for people with developmental disabilities.

The Front Door process will guide you through the steps involved in finding out if you are eligible for services with the OPWDD, identify your needs, and help you work on a plan for getting those services.

For the convenience of families, Day and Developmental Disabilities Regional Office (DDRO) presents Front Door information sessions in our community. To help you get ready to plan for OPWDD services, you will be asked to attend a Front Door information session. The information session is a way for you to learn valuable information about:

  • The supports and services that may be right for you, and how to access them

  • The options that exist for helping individuals and families

  • How the Front Door process works

Once your eligibility status is determined, our Intake Coordinator will be able to assist you in identifying what services at The Arc Ontario are available. We will arrange tours of specific services and sites and will schedule appointments for you to meet with our staff. In addition to programs hosted at The Arc Ontario sites, we work with school districts, Access-VR, Region 1 DDRO, and other providers to develop a plan for you.

Get the process started by calling the Front Door and attending a Family Information Session.

The Office for People With Developmental Disabilities has launched new Front Door Information Session videos that are now available for viewing on the OPWDD website
