Residential Services
The step towards living as independently as possible is an exciting accomplishment. At The Arc Ontario, we aim to enhance that experience by fostering innovative and safe environments, making the right living arrangements available, and providing the tools necessary to promote independence.
Innovative & Independent Housing
Innovative and independent housing includes non-traditional options such as a paid roommate and shared living arrangements, owning your own home, or independent living options that are tailored to your lifestyle, goals, and aspirations.
These options also support improved social and communication skills, increased independence and community safety, expanded and enhanced life skills, and increased self-advocacy.
Options:
Family Care: Individuals live in a caregiver’s home with up to two other individuals who are unable to fully live independently. They’re supported and integrated into the family lifestyle.
Home of Your Own: Individuals are assisted in finding and purchasing a home that meets their needs. Individuals can receive first-time homeowner and financing opportunities as well as services such as Home & Community Supports. Families or individuals can pool resources and purchase a home together with support services provided in the home. We’ll also work with landlords and developers to buy or develop a property for you.
Shared Living: Individuals can choose from “Live-Ins” and “Paid Neighbors” options. A live-in situation provides individuals with the ability to have their own home with a 24-hour staff member living within, for improved safety and person-specific support in a non-traditional manner. “Paid Neighbors” offer companionship and support to individuals who wish to live on their own, but would benefit from having immediate access to staff supports. The staff lives in the same building or complex as the person they support.
Supportive Living Arrangements: Staff schedule times and activities with individuals to meet their needs and are available on call for emergencies. Support offered may include money and home management, community safety and inclusion, and relationship building.
CreekView Apartments: Ontario ARC worked in cooperation with Baldwin Real Estate Corporation and the DiMarco Group in the development of a 96 unit multi-family affordable apartment complex in Canandaigua. We currently have 15 apartments for individuals supported by The Arc Ontario.
